Perspective Taking

What are They Thinking?

Below are games that support a child’s ability to think about what someone else is thinking. Some of these games help children think about others thoughts, and some of these are simply meant to help children tune into other people.

Games

  • 20 Questions
  • What do you see?
  • I Spy
  • Follow the Leader or Simon’s Says
  • Follow the Beat – While sitting in a circle, I have my students follow a simple beat I start. It might be a clap, followed by a fist to the floor, or patting my legs and clapping my hands. They simply have to follow my lead as I change the beat from time to time.
  • Change Something – This simple game can be adapted in a number of different ways. Ultimately, the goal is to have your students study something; an area in the classroom, what you are wearing, etc… Then, change something in that space (i.e. move a book, turn something upside down) or change how you are wearing your outfit (i.e. fold your pant legs, take off your sweater) and then allow them to guess what was changed. You can also give your students a chance to change something!
